I have a solo show coming up!
by Kellie Hill on

So, I'm doing a solo show at Broad Street Cafe in Durham NC this November and December... and then the group show at the Visual Art Exchange in January of next year, and Lazy Daze in Cary at the end of August (coming up soon!), and of course the Whimsical Women Show in Winston Salem in Novemeber...

Wow.

So, I guess I need some sort of calender/ upcoming events page on here. don't i? I'll try to get that up this weekend.

Festival for the Eno
by Kellie Hill on

Here's a picture from Monday- Naomi stayed out there with me all three days, and you can see it tired her out! We had a great time, though- wonderful music, great people, lots of sunshine and junk food :) "Undine II - Green Waters" was the star of the show, even though people also commented a lot on "Three and One" (the cherries) and "Mirroring" (the marbles). And a special thank you to those of you who came out just to see me- it was so encouraging hearing that, and also so nice to see you!

All set up and ready for the Festival for the Eno!
by Kellie Hill on

Today we went out and set up for the Festival for the Eno- the tent is pitched, the walls are assembled, the paintings are hung, we ever got Naomi's play space all set up in the shade under the trees. I am looking forward to the next three days!

This is a wonderful event- live music, great food, amazing arts and crafts. It is at West Point on the Eno in Durham, North Carolina, from 10am to 6pm this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I hope to see you there!

"Mirroring"
by Kellie Hill on

18"x24" acrylic on stretched canvas

And the reflective surface again! You know how much I love to paint marbles, the wonderful things a glass sphere does with light will never cease to amaze me, but combined with the reflections.... I am one of those artists who always believes that the next painting, the one that is in progress, will be the best one I've ever done, but I am so in love with this one it blows me away. As the artist, am I even allowed to say stuff like that?

"Three and One"

24"x36" acrylic on stretched canvas

I created a dark reflective surface especially for this painting, though I know I will use it many times again... the cherries naturally fell into these relationships once I had them lined up, and this wonderful, striking painting almost created itself- it took a while, of course, but it was nice, almost like I just had to step aside and let the subject matter do all the work :)

Undine II - Green Waters
by Kellie Hill on

18"x24" acrylic on stretched canvas

I enjoyed the first Undine painting so much that I just had to do another underwater portrait. With this one I wanted to make the lighting more dramatic, and the setting deeper underwater- the darker colors, green hues, swirling hair, and drifting bubbles. It all came together in a wonderfully mysterious way.... I find myself wondering what it would be like to do a commissioned portrait of someone underwater. Beautiful, interesting, definitely unusual....

My Dailies will be available through Etsy now!
by Kellie Hill on

I have decided to abandon eBay in favor if Etsy, it just seems like a much more friendly system in a lot of ways. So now my dailies will be available on Etsy for just $20, along with some of my larger pieces. Over to the left you can see the link to "Available Paintings"- yep, right there :)

"Linen and Tea"
by Kellie Hill on

16"x20" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

I love this composition, and here I wanted to experiment with the emotional range provided by tinkering with the colors, the golden cup glowing against the soft, cool surroundings.

Available through the Broomfileds Gallery in West Jefferson, NC.
